WHAT’S NEW?

WOPR ON BACK BURNER

The commentary period for the BLM’s proposed Western Oregon Plan Revision has now closed.  The BLM will now study the official commentary received and will, in the near future, issue the final proposal for the plan revision.   There will follow another period for public commentary after which the BLM will issue a Record of Decision in the matter and general operating order.

As much as SORA is concerned about the form of the ultimate revision, there is nothing to be done at this point.  The ball is in BLM’s court.

SORA will keep you updated.

Measure 49 Front and Center

SORA regards the land as the ultimate natural resource and has taken great exception to the implementation of Measure 49.  In an effort to arouse meaningful public awareness of the injustices engendered, SORA has sponsored public meetings, has hosted legal round tables,  and has proposed a Josephine County Board of County Commissioners Resolution proclaiming Measure 37 waivers issued by the County to be legal and binding contracts.  It is SORA’s hope that as contracts the waivers will be protected from State interference under the Contract Clause of the United States Constitution.  Whatever, there will be litigation and the Department of Land Conservation and Development will not give up its control over private property without a fight.
